Sustainable Jersey

Evesham Township is a Sustainable Jersey certified community.

Sustainable Jersey is a non-profit, certification organizaiton/program for municipalities across the state that supports efforts to improve environmental equity, reduce waste and cut greenhouse gas emissions. The organizaion provides financial incentives, tools, and trainings to assist and incentivize communities as they undertake sustainability programs.

Evesham first achieved Sustainable Jersey certification at the Bronze Level in 2013, and was re-certified at the Bronze Level in 2016 and 2019. The township also became ceretified at the Silver Level in 2019. Certified towns are an outstanding group of municipalities that are making important contributions toward the long-term goal of a sustainable New Jersey and world.

To become Sustainable Jersey certified, Evesham submitted documentation to show it had completed a balance of the required sustainability actions, meeting a minimum of 150 action points. In addition to reaching 150 points, to earn certification the Township had to create a Green Team and select at least 2 out of 12 priority action options. Evesham’s priority actions included conducting a Fleet Inventory and establishing a Prescription Drug Safety and Disposal Program. As with most Sustainable Jersey actions, these priority actions required the participation and cooperation of volunteers and a variety of municipal departments.

Sustainable Jersey is a voluntary program that requires no fee for the certification. The Evesham Township Green Team is now working toward achieving Silver Certification, which requires the Town to achieve 350 action points. This is an ambitious effort and will require input and commitment from all sectors of the community.
