Red Ribbon Week

Red Ribbon Week Web

Red Ribbon Week is an annual drug prevention awareness campaign observed in the United States from Oct. 23 to Oct. 31. It promotes a drug-free lifestyle, encourages youth to make healthy choices, and honors the memory of Enrique "Kiki" Camarena, a DEA agent who was killed in 1985 while investigating drug trafficking in Mexico.

The campaign started in the late 1980s and has since grown into the largest drug prevention initiative in the country. Schools, communities, and organizations participate by hosting events, wearing red ribbons, and educating students about the dangers of substance abuse.

The symbol of Red Ribbon Week—the red ribbon—serves as a reminder of the commitment to live drug-free and make positive life choices. Funding for Red Ribbon Week comes from The Evesham Municipal Alliance. The week includes activities such as poster contests, pledges, guest speakers, and themed dress-up days to reinforce the message.
