In early 2021 Evesham Township began steps to purchase and permanently preserve the Garden State Beagle Club property along North Elmwood Road, commonly known as "The Beagle Club."
This 176-acre property was the largest remaining open tract of developable land in the township.
Although the township finalized the purchase in April 2022, work had already begun for the creation a conceptual design that will ensure the property provides passive recreation for residents of all abilities for generations to come. See below for the latest news and ways YOU can be a part of this exciting process!
July 25, 2021 - Evesham Township publishes a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) to engage design consultants interested in developing a concept plan for a passive recreation park at "The Beagle Club" property.
Aug. 30, 2021 - Evesham Township Council conducts interviews with design candidates at a special meeting and appoints firm E&LP
Sept. 09, 2021 - E&LP representatives join township officials for E&LP's initial visit to the site. E&LP design professionals continue to conduct multiple site visits in the following weeks.
Sept. 22, 2021 to Oct. 1, 2021 - Online Community Input Survey was open
Sept. 27, 2021 - Special Joint Meeting of the Evesham Environmental Commission, Historic Preservation Commission and Green Team - 6 p.m through Zoom
Oct. 13, 2021 - E&LP to publicly present the first draft of concept plans at the Evesham Township Council Meeting set for 7 p.m. at the Evesham Municipal Complex, 984 Tuckerton Road. Meeting also to be livestreamed and recorded to the township website.
Oct. 20, 2021 - Community Input Meeting for the public to offer input and share ideas on the first draft concept plans. Meeting is scheduled at 6:30 p.m. at the Gibson House Community Center, 535 E. Main St.
Oct. 27, 2021 - Nov. 30, 2021 - Second Online Community Input Survey was open
Dec. 1, 2021 - Professionals begin work to create a second draft concept plan based on recent survey results and feedback gathered from members of the public at community meetings
Dec. 13, 2021 - Community Input Meeting held for residents of Village Greens Senior Community to offer input and share ideas
Jan. 15, 2022 - Virtual Input Meeting held to hear specific concerns from neighbors of the future park in Tuxedo Court, The Woodlands, Ravenscliff and Country Farms.
April 29, 2022 - Evesham Township officially closes on its purchase of "The Beagle Club" site!
(Per the purchase agreement, the township will continue to lease the property to the former owners for a period of six months during their transition off of the site. The property will not be directly open to the public during this time.)
May 31, 2022 - Evesham Township hosted our final community-wide input meeting for residents to offer feedback on the concept plan for the site.
Sept. 17, 2022 (Saturday) - Members of the public invited to tour the site from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. during a Community Viewing Day.
Oct. 20, 2022 (Thursday) - Members of the public invited to tour the site from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. during a Community Viewing Day.
Feb. 28, 2023 (Tuesday) - Special Council Meeting held at 6 p.m. through virtual conference service Zoom for a Public Hearing on application to NJDEP Green Acres Local Government Stewardship Grant Program.
TBA - Additional engagement with The Woodlands, Ravenscliff and Country Farms neighborhoods to better measure the level of desire for direct connections from these neighborhoods to the future park.
Thanks to everyone who completed our online community survey that ran from Sept. 22 to Oct. 1. Results will help Evesham Township transform the current 176-acre Beagle Club property into a new public park that incorporates passive recreation opportunities and provides access to natural ecosystems.
