Mayor Jackie Veasy, Township Council, and all those here at Evesham Township are saddened to learn of the passing of former Township Councilwoman Deborah Hackman. We want to express our heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, former students and the many other lives she impacted during her years of public service and volunteerism.
Also known to the community as “Debbie” or “Deb,” she was first elected to Township Council in 2009, and she would go on to serve through 2018. She was also selected to serve as Evesham’s Deputy Mayor for several periods during her time on Council.
One of the lasting legacies of her service as an elected official was her creation of the Evesham Township Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) in 2011. In her own words, YAC was “dedicated to serving the community and nurturing the next generation of leaders.” To this day, YAC continues empower our township’s youth.
Mayor Veasy offered the following personal words:
“I want to personally offer my sincere condolences to the family and friends of Councilwoman Deb Hackman. Her many years of public service and volunteer efforts in Evesham reflect her strong dedication to helping her community and the residents she served. She took especially great pride in guiding our local youth, and the lessons she imparted on the importance of community service will live on for years to come in the future leaders who were fortunate enough to learn from her.”
Former Mayor Randy Brown also offered the following on his time serving with Debbie:
"It was an honor and a privilege to serve alongside Councilwoman Deb Hackman for more than a decade on Evesham Township Council. She was a dedicated public servant, committed to making Evesham Twp. a great place to live and raise a family. Her contributions to our community and her impact on residents will continue forever. My thoughts and prayers go out to her husband Dave and daughters Abby and Rachel.”
Throughout the past decade of her professional life, Debbie also worked as a science teacher, teaching Chemistry at Burlington Township High School, and later teaching Science/Students with Disabilities at the Burlington County Institute of Technology.
Once a service date is announced, Evesham will lower all flags in her honor. We once again ask that residents please keep all her loved ones in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
