Public Information Notice – Avian Flu and Deceased Birds

The Evesham Township Office of Emergency Management has recently received multiple reports regarding ill, dying, and deceased birds within the community—with confirmation that approximately 80 geese and small birds have been found deceased in Evesham Township.

Currently, all reports and inquiries regarding sick or dead birds are being referred to the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) Division of Fish and Wildlife, the agency responsible for evaluation, investigation, and testing.

Residents are asked not to handle or disturb any sick or deceased birds and to report sightings directly to NJDEP using the contact information below.

How to Report

Current Status

  • Evaluation and testing of reported incidents are conducted solely at the discretion of the NJDEP.
  • The general risk to the public remains low. NJ does not have any reported human cases of H5N1 bird flu.
  • People should avoid unprotected contact with sick or infected birds and other animals.
  • The Office of Emergency Management continues to monitor the situation and remains in close coordination with state partners.
