Evesham Township is pleased to announce Thomas Reinholt has been officially selected to become the next full-time Chief of Police for the Evesham Township Police Department.

Reinholt is a 28-year veteran of law enforcement, who most recently held the rank of Deputy Chief for the Evesham Police Department, as well as the temporary rank of “Acting Chief” since the retirement of former Chief Walt Miller this past December.

In his new official role, Reinholt will guide the department as its officers continue to uphold the department’s mission to protect, serve and enhance the quality of life of all citizens under a progressive and diverse department.

With Evesham ranking as the largest municipality in Burlington County, Reinholt will oversee a workforce of about 100 dedicated employees across its patrol officers, command staff, SLEO members and civilian staff.

“I am honored and excited to serve the Evesham Township residents and community as Chief of Police,” Reinholt said. “The department mission is built on a strong foundation of transparency, trust, and service with respect. We share a strong bond with our community as a result of these principles, and the men and women of the department work hard to maintain and enhance this foundation. I will work hard with our staff to ensure we continue to provide the best police services to the community, while also building relationships, proactively addressing concerns, and actively engaging our service population.”

Reinholt first began his career as a police officer in 1997, first serving with the Runnemede Police Department before joining the Evesham Township Police Department in 2000.

While assigned to the Patrol Bureau for the Evesham Police Department, he held the positions of K9 Officer, Corporal, and Sergeant. Upon being promoted to Lieutenant, he served as the Accreditation Manager, and performed the internal affairs and training functions for the agency.

As a Captain, he commanded the Administrative and Operations divisions, which included the patrol, investigative, support services, and professional standards functions. He also began the first Police Chaplain Program for the agency, which brought together 13 different leaders from various religious faiths to provide spiritual support and guidance to the community and police department.

Reinholt is a graduate of the 281st Session of the FBI National Academy.

He is also a graduate of the Rutgers University Certified Public Manager Program, and New Jersey State Chiefs of Police Command and Leadership Program. He attended the FBI Mid-Atlantic Law Enforcement Executive Development Seminar at Princeton University.

He is also a New Jersey State Chiefs of Police (NJSACOP) Accredited Command Executive, instructor for the NJSACOP Frontline Leadership Program, and an NJSACOP Law Enforcement Accreditation Program Assessor. During his tenure as a NJSACOP Assessor, Reinholt has assessed over 300 police agencies in New Jersey to ensure compliance with best law enforcement policies, procedures, and practices. Reinholt is also an Adjunct Professor for the Fairleigh Dickinson Executive Leadership Program. Reinholt has a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from LaSalle University, and a Master’s Degree in Education from Seton Hall University.

Per the code of the Township of Evesham, the Township Manager administers the promotional procedure for the position of Chief of Police, with the manager responsible for making the final appointment. Also per code, only those already serving as Deputy Chief or Captain in the Evesham PD are eligible to be considered as candidates for Chief of Police.

“The Evesham Police Department has a long standing history as being professional, transparent, as well as being both collaborative and engaging with our community,” Township Manager Walt Miller said. “I have all the confidence the Chief Reinholt will continue us on this path forward and he will lead our agency and our community into the future.”

Mayor Jaclyn Veasy also spoke to Reinholt’s longtime service to the Evesham community.

“On behalf of myself and Township Council, I’m pleased to formally welcome Chief Reinholt to his new role as Chief of Police for Evesham Township,” Mayor Veasy said. “For the past 25 years, Chief Reinholt has dedicated his life to serving the Evesham Police Department and doing everything he could to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our residents. I have no doubt that in his new role of Chief he will continue to uphold the same exemplary standards and ideals as he leads our department into the future.”
