Last week Evesham Township was able to successfully install a new pollinator garden thanks to a $2,000 grant through Sustainable Jersey, as funded by The PSEG Foundation.

The garden was installed near the Evesham Community Garden behind the Blue Barn Rec Center on Tuckerton Road, which will allow members of the public the opportunity to regularly view the garden and be reminded about the benefits that pollinators provide our ecosystem. Bees transfer pollen between flowers, enabling the incredible diversity of plants on our planet to flower and fruit. Pollinators are keystone species in essentially every ecosystem on earth, enabling the reproduction of over 85% of all flowering plants and 67% of agricultural crops.

This installation of the new pollinator garden also ties into Evesham Township's recent work to become part of the Bee City USA program, which encourages communities to sustain pollinators, such as native bees, by increasing the abundance of native plants, providing nest sites and more.

On hand to help with the installation were members of the Township's Parks Department, representatives of the Evesham Environmental Commission, members of the Evesham Community Policing Unit, and other volunteers.
